Recruitment charges you more for hiring someone good.
A contingency agency takes a percentage of the new person's first-year salary — commonly 15–25%. On a £40,000 hire that is £6,000 to £10,000. Fill a £55,000 role instead and the very same work costs about £3,000 more.
The fee was indexed to the salary, not to the work
That is the part nobody could ever justify to us, and the part we could not justify to a client. Filling a £55,000 vacancy is not harder than filling a £40,000 one. It just pays the agency better.
So we built it the other way round. Price the work. A flat fee, agreed before anyone starts, that does not move when the salary does.
What we replaced it with
From £399 +VAT to advertise a role yourself, or a managed search from £1,500 +VAT set by salary band.
The price is the same whether the role pays £25,000 or £75,000.
The managed search is guaranteed: role unfilled, full refund.
Run the advert yourself, or hand us the whole search. Both are flat, both are priced in public.
Agency percentages and the £40,000 worked example are from our own published cost comparison at talentfinderuk.co.uk/blog.
