How we hire

You are being interviewed by people who recruit for a living.

We fill roles for other businesses every day, and we publish the guides that teach employers how to do it themselves. A shambolic process on our own vacancies would be quite the look. So here is the whole thing, up front, before you apply.

Three of the guides we publish for employers on the main site — the same thinking is applied to this process.

The process

Five steps, and no surprises.

Not every step is the same length for every role, and we will tell you where you are in it rather than leaving you guessing.

A phone call to start

An informal chat with someone here — what you have done, what you are after, and a straight description of the role including the parts people find hard. You get to ask as much as we do.

By telephone

A proper conversation

The real interview. We go through your experience properly and you go through us properly: the product, the pay, the targets, who you would report to and what the first three months look like.

On Teams, or face to face in Preston — your choice

Meet the people you would work with

You speak to the team, not just whoever is hiring. They will tell you what the job is actually like on a Tuesday afternoon, and they are not coached beforehand.

With the team

Show us you can do it

A short, practical exercise rather than a puzzle: a competency-based task for the recruitment role, or a simple role play for a sales one — a mock call using the same script and product you would use on day one. Nobody expects a polished performance; we are watching how you think and how you handle being interrupted.

Competency exercise or role play

A decision, and a reason

Yes or no, from a person, with the reasoning behind it. If it is a no we will tell you what tipped it, because a rejection you cannot learn from is a waste of your afternoon.

Straight back to you

Tell us if something would make this hard

If a format, a time of day or an access need would put you at a disadvantage, say so when you apply. We will change the process to suit — a different format, more time, questions in advance, a written alternative to a call. You do not have to explain why, and it does not count against you.

Interviewing us back

Ask about the commission structure, the leads, the targets and what happens when someone has a bad month. We would rather answer that at step one than have you find out at week six. If we are not right for you, the quickest way to find that out is to ask us something awkward.
